Cold Talk
The Cold Talk is aimed at groups or individuals who have not attended Rovent or who have limited winter camping experience. It covers the do's and dont's of winter camping, including topics from clothing and equipment, food and shelter to hypothermia. You will also be able to register for Rovent at the Vancouver Cold Talk. The Vancouver Cold Talk is held at BCIT in Burnaby.

Location:   BCIT Burnaby Campus, 3700 Willingdon Ave, Burnaby
Building SE6, Room 233 (BC Tel Lecture Theatre), located in the central part of the campus (see the enclosed maps)
Access:   Public Transport:
There are several bus routes that get you near to BCIT. Busses will deliver you to Willingdon Ave and along Canada Way on the north side of the campus. There are campus info maps around. Find one and navigate your way to the SE6 building. Check with Translink for more info.

Your Own Wheels:
DO NOT ENTER THE CAMPUS FROM WILLINGDON

Here are the two best ways to access the campus and find Lot 7.
  1. From Canada Way: turn south onto Carey Ave, turn right (west) onto Goard Way, turn left (south) onto Roper Ave, travel about 150m, SE6 will be on your right. Travel another 50m and Lot 7 will be on your left.
  2. From Wayburne: turn west onto Ford St. Ford does a 90º turn to the north and becomes Roper Ave. Lot 7 is about 200m to the north and on your right. SE6 is on the west side of Roper and to the NW of Lot 7.
Parking:   On Campus Parking in LOT 7, $3.50 for the evening
Lot 7 is the closest to SE6

Host Your Own Cold Talk

We realize that not all groups can attend a cold talk in Vancouver, so you can host a Cold Talk for your area/region if there isn't already one. There are, however, a few guidelines that you must follow.
Subject matter should include:
  • Types of clothes to bring
  • Personal equipment
  • Accomodation
  • Hypothermia
  • Gas heaters in tents
  • Have an outdoor store come and speak to your group
  • Food
